ABOUT US

Inova is a global leader in personalized health, which leverages precision medicine to predict, prevent and treat disease, enabling individuals to live longer, healthier lives. In 1956, a group of concerned Fairfax County citizens formed the Fairfax Hospital Association to build and operate a hospital in the county to bring quality healthcare to the growing community. In 1961, Inova Fairfax Hospital opened its doors. Today Inova’s six hospitals include more than 1,700 licensed beds and 16,000 employees and serve more than 2 million people each year from throughout the Washington, DC, metro area and beyond.

Inova’s mission is to improve the health of the diverse community it serves through excellence in patient care, education and research.

For years, simple as well as complex pelvic floor disorders have been treated by Urogynecologists at Inova Fairfax Hospital. This includes the treatment of urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, voiding dysfunction, interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome, fecal incontinence, gynecologic fistulas, obstructed defecation, and management of mesh complications among other conditions.   Non-surgical as well as surgical management is offered to our patients. After a thorough history, examination, and detailed patient counseling, recommendations are tailored to each individual patient. If surgery is indicated, a wide variety of approaches are offered with an emphasis on a minimally invasive approach whether that is vaginal, laparoscopic, or robotic. Each surgeon is experienced and operates at high volumes. Together, IFH Urogynecologists performed more than 500 of incontinence and prolapse surgeries each year.   Urogyecologic surgeons are all fellowship trained in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) and are board certified in FPRMS. Each has served on committees for national organizations dedicated to FPMRS including a past president of the American Urogynecologic Society and member of the Board of Directors/ FPRMS Division Director for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Dr. Nicolette Horbach). They each have presented at national meetings, been published in peer-reviewed journals, and authored chapters in textbooks in FPMRS.  Most recently, Dr. S. Abbas Shobeiri, a world authority in pelvic floor ultrasonography, prior section chief and director of NAFC national center of excellence at the University of Oklahoma, has been recruited to Inova Fairfax as the Vice Chair for Gynecologic Subspecialties.
